A Brief Introduction about Bokar Shedra.
For the sake of Dharma and sentient beings in 1984 venerable kyabje bokar Rinpoche and venerable kyabje khenchen Rinpoche had established a bokar ngedon chokor ling monastery at mirik mainly to practice the dharma, but before practicing the dharma listening, contemplation and meditation are crucial therefore, both Rinpoches had established thosam norling gyatsal shedra in mundgod Tibetan colony near by camp no - 7 Karnataka, South India. Initially 15 monks had started the study of Buddha's scriptures and the 5 major Buddhist philosophical texts and their commentaries of Indian and Tibetan scholars. Gradually every year monks have increased, by 2019 approximately 350 monks have increased, rooms and environment were insufficient for so many monks. Therefore, both Rinpoches have established a new bokar shedra obar chimeyling institute for higher Buddhist studies & research near damdim Siliguri, West Bengal. At the end of 2019 all the monks have shifted to new shedra. As before continue the schedule and to primary students English, Tibetan, math and science are taught for 5, 6 years and then they study Buddhist philosophical texts sutras and tantras, after completing their study they receive the certificate of Acharya and abbot, and they serve as a teacher, some as a helper According to their ability.
As per Tibetan calander every month on 10th and 25th monks do rituals. Annual Tara rituals and Hevajra rituals are also conducted. Priliminary practice and three basic rituals of monks are also performed. Under the guidance of bokar gayana paramita educational society monks do annual examination, and once in a every two months monks do discourse on some important and difficult topic of Buddhist philosophical texts and every month there is Tibetan speaking competition, spelling competition, poetry writing competition and Buddhism introduction practice, so these are the brief introduction about bokar shedra.
