2025/11/21 - Celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Birthday and 25th Anniversary of Bokar Shedra.
 
This year, in honor of the 90th birthday of the supreme leader of Tibet and the protector of the Tibetan people, the embodiment of the compassionate Avalokiteshvara, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the omniscient and all-seeing great being, Jetsun Jampal Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, the unrivaled ruler of the three realms, the glorious and auspicious one, the Pal Zangpo, has declared a year-long celebration of His Holiness's kindness as the "Year of Compassion."
Yesterday, in the morning, at the bokar Shedra Obar Chime Ling, the main guests included Jamgon Dorje Chang Kwangting Tai Situ Rinpoche, Kyabje Tenga Choktrul Rinpoche, Kyabje bokar Choktrul Rinpoche, Kyabje Bogangar Rinpoche, and Kyabje Khenchen Rinpoche, as well as representatives from various Kagyu monasteries in India, Nepal, and Bhutan, including Rumtek Shedrup Chokhor Ling, Palpung Sherab Ling, Lava Kagyu Thekchen Ling, Palchen Chokhor Ling, and Sonada Samdrup Dargye ChoeLing.
Also present were local officials such as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mal Bazar, Inspector-in-Charge Mal Police, and Block Land and Land Revenue Officer Mal Bazar, as well as representatives from the Tibetan administrator Kunga Sotop, the Northeast Representative Dorje Rigzin, the Ravangla representative officer Tenzin Lekshe, the Kalimpong representative officer Tseten, the Gangtok representative officer Jampa, and the Doctors from Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute.
In the presence of thousands of monks, nuns, and laypeople, the sacred image of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was presented with a mandala and offerings. Kyabje Choktrul Rinpoche and Kyabje Khenchen Rinpoche gave speeches related to His Holiness's four great aspirations. Thirteen khenpos and eight degrees on Tantrayana were awarded certificates, and they engaged in debates on the great texts of sutra and tantra, offering a vast ocean of Dharma teachings to please the Buddha.
In the afternoon, Beginning with Cake cutting ceremony for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and various cultural performances were held to celebrate His Holiness's birthday and the 25th anniversary of the Shedra which was celebrated in a grand and meaningful manner.
