2011/03/19 - MESSAGE FROM KYABJE BOKAR KHENCHEN DONYO RINPOCHE FOR JAPAN'S DISASTER.
Based on the powerful and tragic earthquake, and especially due to the ensuing tsunami, thousands of people have suddenly lost their lives and thousands more are dealing with unprecedented devastation in the island nation of Japan and elsewhere.
Those who have died are now facing the frightening state of the bardo--the state after death but before the rebirth to come. In order to pacify their fear and confusion, it would be beneficial to recite the mantra of the Buddha Amitabha along with Aspiration Prayers for Rebirth in Sukhavati as much as possible, dedicating the practice and the merit to these individuals.
Another powerful means to assuage the suffering of those wandering in the bardo is the Elaborate Burnt Offering (the purab choga). It would also be beneficial to perform this ritual as much as possible.
Further, we now find ourselves living the degenerate times. In such an age, many destructive forces abound: natural disasters related to disturbances of the four elements of earth, water, fire and air; wars and other bloody disputes; and outbreaks of all sorts of diseases both new and known. In order to avert such calamities in Japan, our home countries, and indeed the entire world, it would be good to accumulate 100,000 repetitions of the refuge prayer, 100,000 repetitions of the mantra of the Noble Tara, and as many repetition of the Twenty-one Praises to Tara as possible.
Through these means may countless beings be genuinely benefited.
